This week was my first week working at Coffee Bean. After feeling up the application form last week, the manager told me that she’s allergic to Christians. ??? She commented that most of them always told her that they couldn’t make it for their timeslots last min due to Church activities.
Anyway, Monday was my first day working there. The asst manager always sua pi qi. I stood at the doorway of the staff entrance after putting my bag in the drawer, hoping that the asst manager will teach me or ask me to do something. But she didn’t. To avoid people saying that I wasn’t doing anything, I asked the asst manager who was walking around and not carrying or doing anything in particular, what I was supposed to do. She replied, “Can u wait patiently? Can’t u see that I’m busy?” How was I supposed to know, right? She didn’t even tell me anything. After abt 15 min, The first thing that she asked me to do was service. What did she mean by service? She asked me to walk around the place and clear whatever rubbish or leftover food could be seen lying around. It really takes humility. The previous job also like that. After that, she furiously told me to tie my hair. But my hair is so short, how am I supposed to tie? So man bu jiang li….
They wanted to teach me how to make ice blended drinks but most of the customers ordered hot drinks and mocha ice blend. Thus, I only practiced mocha ice blend for 5hrs, of course I did other things too. The head manager was there too. He was nice, encouraged me to keep up the good work when I did things correctly and told me not to panic.
I worked from 3pm to 11 pm yesterday. I wanted to change some stuff at Isetan with my mum – she took a day’s leave. But she was late, so we didn’t had time to change. At 3.01pm, I was outside Coffee Bean when the asst manager called to ask where I was. She sounded so furious. I was only a minute late, why kick up such a big fuss? She was quite pek chek when I didn’t tie my hair. I didn’t see a need to tie since my hair is short. But anyway, I borrowed a rubberband from a kind colleague. The manager came abt 4pm. She greeted me with a ‘Hi’ and I greeted her back softly. But I guess she didn’t see nor hear. So she told another colleague, “when somebody say hi to u, u will say hi back rite?” – indirect sarcasm ar? I thought, “ Is she like the asst manager?” Later, the manager taught me how to make ice blends using a simplified table form. 1 colleague was kinda of envious, asking her how come I have this kind of treatment? Then she replied, “ That’s how I teach, not bcos of bianess.” =)
For dinner, the asst manager asked around, “ who wanted dinner at KFC?” But she didn’t ask me until the manager asked. Then after some consideration, she asked me to try Coffee Bean’s food. The cost price is actually cheap, but bcos of it’s freshness and service, they sell the food at a higher price. So I had free dinner. =)
At abt 9plus, there was a huge crowd who wanted iceblend. So I got to apply what she had taught into practice. Though I was quite panicky and forgot some steps, making coffee ice blend is fun. U know what, I had never expected that she added 5 more drinks for me to make, in addition to the busyness. The additional drinks were for training. Then she told me what I did correctly and wrongly. At the end of it, she offered me 1 drink for my first day learning under her. Cool man. =)
She told another colleague that I had passed world war 3, and asked her to teach me how to do closing for muffins.
Overall, my second day was better bcos the manager was there, though I couldn’t go for the Ken and Annie Schisler meeting. I so wanted to go for that, but bcos of work. If I can say, she is better than the asst manager who thinks that she’s very high in position. Actually, the higher the position u go, the more u have to serve – so that people would want to follow u. don’t lose ur temper any old how and people will respect u.
That’s all for now. =)
